Pinterest pin titles and descriptions for products: my working rules
By Kai · Updated Oct 19, 2026 · 2 min read
Put the main keyword in the first 40 characters of the title. Write a 150 to 500 character description with buyer-intent words. Add a board plan, UTM links and a bulk-upload CSV with image URLs so the pins can be uploaded in batches.
These are my own working rules from running Pinterest for stores, not Pinterest's official limits. Check the current platform limits before a big upload.
Title
- Main keyword in the first 40 characters.
- One idea per pin, in plain words a buyer would search.
- No “link in bio” on Pinterest: the pin already links.
Description
- 150 to 500 characters.
- Buyer-intent words: who it is for, what it is, when to give or use it.
- The real offer only if the store has it.
What goes with the upload
- A board plan.
- UTM links so you can see which pins send visitors.
- A bulk-upload CSV with image URLs, plus alt text from each picture and SEO-friendly file names.
Scale
On MyDogPics the six-month plan has 735 Pinterest pins, each title and description written one at a time. For GenzOutfit the pipeline builds 15 pins per URL with UTM tagging and a bulk-CSV schema.
