Social image and video sizes cheat sheet: pin, feed, story, square, thumbnail

Pins are 2:3 at 1000 x 1500. Instagram feed slides are 4:5 at 1080 x 1350. Stories are 9:16 at 1080 x 1920. Squares are 1:1 at 1080 x 1080. YouTube thumbnails are 16:9 at 1280 x 720. Keep text out of the top 250 and bottom 340 pixels of a Story.
| Placement | Ratio | Size (pixels) |
|---|---|---|
| Pinterest pin | 2:3 | 1000 x 1500 |
| Instagram feed slide | 4:5 | 1080 x 1350 |
| Story or vertical video | 9:16 | 1080 x 1920 |
| Square (Facebook, X, feed) | 1:1 | 1080 x 1080 |
| YouTube thumbnail | 16:9 | 1280 x 720 |
Safe zones
On Stories, keep the top 250 pixels and the bottom 340 pixels free of text and faces, because the app puts its own interface there. Keep the same margin logic on pins: keep the title and the product away from the edges.
One product, every placement
Do not stretch one picture to every size. Crop each placement from the real product photo and re-place the text. In the plan I run for MyDogPics, the 1,707 image briefs are split into seven formats: pins 2:3, Instagram slides 4:5, Instagram feed, Stories 9:16, X squares, Facebook squares and YouTube thumbnails.
Platforms change their guidance from time to time, so check the current size on the platform before a large batch.
